Bournemouth is not only well known as the warmest and the most popular holiday resort in England, but also as a world centre for the teaching of English as a second and foreign language.
The town is situated in the south-east corner of Dorset, just over 90 minutes by train from London and within easy reach of the most beautiful places in the south: Poole, Christchurch, the great port of Southampton, Beaulieu National Motor Museum, the prehistoric Stonehenge, the old historic towns of Portsmouth, Salisbury and Winchester (once the capital of England). At the heart of this area is the New Forest: 90,000 acres of partly wooded land, founded by William the Conqueror as a hunting ground and now property of the Crown. This unspoilt area has remained like this for centuries and even today one can see hundreds of wild ponies and other animals roaming at will.
